Health Ministry starts strategy of health care for 2001-2005



Ha Noi, May 10 (VNA) -- The medical sector in the next ten years will focus on developing grassroots services, expanding medical insurance to all people, and renewing the mechanism of payment for medical treatment.

So said Health Minister Prof. Dr. Do Nguyen Phuong at a conference to start the implementation of a health care strategy for the 2001-2010 period held in Ha Noi, May 10.

Implementation socio-eco. programs for mountainous & remote areas


Ha Noi, May 11 (VNA) -- Five projects, referred to as Programme 135, will be implemented this year under the Government's socio-economic development programme for poor communes in mountainous and remote areas, says the Committee for Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas (CEMMA).

Vietnamese and French leaders agree to boost cooperation

UNDCP officer says Vietnam serious in drug fight



Ha Noi, May 9 (VNA)-- A programme officer of the United Nations Drug Control Programme (UNDCP) in Ha Noi has appreciated Viet Nam's achievements in drug control that, therefore, the country deserved more international help.

Pev Vogel was addressing a UNDCP-sponsored regional conference on drug control on May 8 in Yuangon, Myanmar, which was participated by Viet Nam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and China besides the host country.

Pev Vogel said Viet Nam has efficiently fought drug crime in recent years.

Vietnam wishes to boost cooperation with Francophonie



Ha Noi, May 9 (VNA) -- Viet Nam attaches importance to the development of cooperation with the Inter-governmental Francophonie Agency (AIF), said Foreign Minister, Nguyen Dy Nien, to visiting AIF General Director, Roger Dehaybe, in Ha Noi on May 8.

The FM stressed that Viet Nam wishes to further cooperate with the AIF in economics, culture, education, information technology, and youth affairs.

July 28 as Family Day in Vietnam



Ha Noi, May 7 (VNA) -- The Prime Minister has declared July 28 as the national Family Day.

In a relevant decision dated May 4, the Viet Nam Committee for Child Care and Protection (VNCCCP) was assigned to coordinate with relevant agencies to organize activities for the day to encourage family unity.

Under the plans, the VNCCCP will open festivals and seminars, with main subjects being things like the relationship between children and their parents and family and society.

ODA to target poverty elimination, agri'l & rural development



Ha Noi, May (VNA) -- Official development assistance, ODA, resources, including non-refundable ODA sources and ODA loans, will be given first to programmes aimed at hunger and poverty elimination as well as agricultural and rural development.

This came from Decree No. 17/2001/ND-CP, signed by Prime Minister Phan Van Khai on May 4, which states regulations on ODA management and use.

Under the decree, the Government will exercise State management over ODA resources.

Vietnam supports foreigners' cultural & educational institutions



Ha Noi, May 8 (VNA) -- The Viet Nam Government supports the establishment of foreign educational organizations relating to culture, arts, information, economics, science and technology.

The Prime Minister has issued Decree No. 18/2001/ND-CP on the establishment and operation of such foreign organizations in Viet Nam.

Pakistani Chief Executive concluded visit to Vietnam



Ha Noi, May 5 (VNA) -- Chief Executive of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Gen. Pervez Musharraf concluded a three-day official friendship visit to Viet Nam on May 5.

The visit was made at the invitation of Prime Minister Phan Van Khai.

While in Viet Nam, Gen. Musharraf paid a courtesy visit to President Tran Duc Luong, held talks with PM Khai, paid floral tributes to President Ho Chi Minh at his Mausoleum and visited the late President's residence and office in Ha Noi.

Ho Chi Minh City proposes amendment to Labour Code



Ha Noi, May 5 (VNA) -- Ho Chi Minh City experts have recommended amendment or supplementation of 78 issues related to the Labour Code and under-law documents in an effort to ensure the signing of labour contracts for 95 percent of the working people and trade union presence in 80 percent of foreign-invested businesses in the next five years.

The city has managed to get labour contracts for 800,000 working people and social insurance for more than 625,000 workers in the past six years of implementing the Labour Code.
