Repatriation of US Servicemen’s remains
A repatriation ceremony of remains of U.S. servicemen who died during the war in Vietnam was held at the Da Nang International Airport on April 9.
Attending the ceremony were representatives from Vietnam Office for Seeking Missing Personnel (VNOSMP), Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC), the US MIA Office and the US Defense Attache Office in Hanoi.
The Vietnamese side’s representative handed over to the U.S. side’s one box of remains which were recovered during the 106th Joint Field Activities from February to April, 2012.
Those remains had been jointly reviewed and concluded by Vietnam and U.S. forensic specialists that they might be associated with the U.S. servicemen missing during the war in Vietnam and recommended to bring to Hawaii, United States, for further review.
The seeking of the remains of U.S. servicemen missing during the war in Vietnam is humanitarian cooperation between the Vietnam Government and the U.S Government. This is the 122nd hand-over of American missing servicemen’s remains since 1973.
Addressing at the ceremony, the U.S. Government representative expressed deep gratitude and high appreciation for the steadfast humanitarian policy, good-will and the increasingly efficient cooperation of the Vietnam Government and people.-VNA
