Repatriation of US Servicemen’s remains
The Repatriation Ceremony of remains of US servicemen who died during the war in Vietnam was held at Da Nang International Airport on June 22, 2012.
Attending the ceremony, on the Vietnamese side were Representatives from Vietnam Office for Seeking Missing Personnel (VNOSMP) and, on the US side, Consul General of the US in Ho Chi Minh City, Le Thanh An; Defence Attache at the US Embassy in Hanoi, Patrick Reardon and the Representatives from the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC) and the US MIA Office in Hanoi.
The Vietnamese side’s Representative handed over to the U.S. side’s three boxes of remains which were recovered during the 107 th Joint Field Activities from May to June this year.
Those remains had been jointly reviewed and concluded by Vietnam and US forensic specialists that they might be associated with the U.S. servicemen missing during the war in Vietnam and recommended to bring to Hawaii , United States , for further review. The search for the remains of US servicemen missing during the war in Vietnam is humanitarian cooperation between the Vietnam Government and the US Government. This is the 123rd hand-over of American missing servicemen’s remains since 1973.
Addressing the Repatriation Ceremony, the US Government Representative expressed thanks and appreciation for the steadfast humanitarian policy, good-will and the increasingly efficient cooperation of the Vietnamese Government and people./.
