Ho Chi Minh City remains attractive to foreign investors

Ho Chi Minh City, Nov.12 (VNA) -- Effectively streamlining administrative procedures, organising on-line dialogues with businesses, improving and diversifying information services, and drawing up list of projects calling for investment attached with preferential treatment are measures taken promptly by Ho Chi Minh City's authorities in a bid to lure more foreign investment.

In the first ten months of this year, the city attracted 186 foreign-invested projects capitalised at 254 million USD, a 35.2 percent increase year on year.

Viet Nam attaches importance to economic integration

New York, Nov. 13 (VNA) -- Viet Nam attaches great importance to integrating into the world economy, first and foremost, to expand trade relationship with other countries, said Ms. Ninh Thi Binh, Viet Nam's representative to the UN Committee for Economic-Financial Affairs, in New York on Nov. 12.

She said at a debate on "International trade and development" that Viet Nam considered its early accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) as the first priority in this process.

VN deputy trade minister rejects US DOC's conclusion

Ha Noi, Nov. 13 (VNA) -- The U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC)'s conclusion that Viet Nam's economy is a non-market one is extremely unreasonable, said Deputy Trade Minister Luong Van Tu.

VN Commercial banks to cut foreign currency interest rates


Ha Noi, Nov. 13 (VNA) --Viet Nam's commercial banks are to slash dollar deposit interest rates shortly, a State Bank official said.

The move follows U.S. Federal Reserve's cut last week, State Bank Strategic Policy Department Director Le Xuan Nghia said, adding that the Fed's cut would impact the global economy with Viet Nam not escaping the brunt.

The rate reduction would directly affect domestic banks which have deposited approximately 5 billion USD in overseas banks, forcing them to adjust their own deposit rates.

Viet Nam wants peaceful solution to Iraq issue

Ha Noi, Nov. 11 (VNA) -- Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Phan Thuy Thanh on Monday said that now as before Viet Nam wants the Iraq issue to be solved by peaceful means in line with the UN Charter and international laws.

"This must be based on the respect for independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as non-use of force to interfere into Iraq's internal affairs," Thanh said.

HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam, Nov. 3 — This time, the Vietnamese have invaded the United States, with catfish, and a bitter war has broken out for access to America's frying pans.

The battlefield is the free market, new terrain for Vietnam, which gave in to American pressure last year and signed a trade agreement that knocks down trade barriers in return for access to American markets.
