<B>Vietnam strongly opposed terrorist acts</B>

Ha Noi, Oct. 11 (VNA) -- "Viet Nam strongly opposes terrorist acts and supports efforts to make humankind free from terrorism," said the spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry in Ha Noi on Oct. 11.

The spokesperson was answering a question raised by Viet Nam News Agency correspondent on the country's position toward terrorist acts against Viet Nam as other countries are taking cooperative measures against terrorism.

Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador Nguyen Tam Chien presented Letter of Credence to President George W. Bush at the White House on October 10, 2001.

Spain wants to cooperate with Vietnam on long-term basis

Ha Noi, Oct. 10 (VNA) -- Viet Nam is one of three Asian countries that Spain gives cooperation priority to, said Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar in an interview granted to a Viet Nam News Agency correspondent on the occasion of Prime Minister Phan Van Khai's visit to Spain from Oct. 8-9.

He said that the signing of a framework agreement on development cooperation which includes regulations on the establishment of a joint committee proved that Spain's desire for cooperation with Viet Nam is constant and long term.

PM Phan Van Khai visits Germany

Ha Noi, Oct. 10 (VNA) -- Prime Minister Phan Van Khai was given an official welcome ceremony in Berlin, Germany, today, Oct. 10, the first of a five-day official visit to the country as a guest of German Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.

After the welcome ceremony, PM Khai and his German counterpart held talks and had a press briefing. The two leaders briefed the press on their talks dealing with bilateral cooperation and agreements.

"Vietnam strongly condemns any terrorist acts and supports efforts to eliminate terrorism from the life of mankind. Vietnam is of the view that anti-terrorist measures must be taken in conformity with the UN Charter and international laws.

Vietnam expresses its deep concern over the war in Afghanistan, which poses serious threats to the lives of innocent civilians. We hope that the parties concerned will exercise maximum restraint, not to let the war spread out and expeditiously find appropriate solutions to early put an end to the war and restore peace".

Prime Minister Phan Van Khai visits Spain, Germany& Netherlands

Oct. 7 (VNA) -- Prime Minister Phan Van Khai and his wife left Ha Noi today, Oct. 7, for official visits to Spain, Germany and the Netherlands.

<B>VN pledges to join worldwide endeavor to counter terrorism</B>

Oct. 5 (VNA) -- Viet Nam is willing to fulfil its obligations in conformity with national and international law in a worldwide endeavour to counter terrorism.

The statement was made by Permanent Representative of Viet Nam to the United Nations Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Chau at a UN discussion on measures to eliminate international terrorism in New York on Oct. 4.

More American servicemen's remains repatriated


Ha Noi, Oct. 4 (VNA) -- Remains of five American servicemen listed as missing in action were handed over to the U.S. Full Accounting Joint Task Force by representatives of the Viet Nam Office Seeking Missing Persons in Ha Noi on Oct. 4.

The remains were found by joint Vietnamese-U.S. teams during the 66th joint search for MIAs from July 9-August 8, 2001 and by local people. Those remains have gone through primary tests for identification in Ha Noi by forensic doctors from both countries.

Vietmam welcomes the US Senate' BTA approval

(VNA) -- The U.S. Senate on Wednesday, Oct.3, voted 88-12 to approve a bill to establish normal trade ties with Viet Nam.

Seven of the 11 Senators taking the floor had asked for the endorsement. Senator John McCain, who spent years as a prisoner of war in Viet Nam, said he supported normalizing trade relations as he could "no longer see the benefit of fighting over it."
